Soturnus Skullcrusher: Promo 2009 / DVD

10/02/10  ||  Lord K Philipson

“Soturnus Skullcrusher is a newly formed band from Brazil and according to themselves they arose from the deepest and darkest side of hell. Influenced by Hellhammer, Bathory and Sarcofago they started to rehearse in March 2009 and soon followed by the first live gigs. Two of those gigs were captured on film and put together on the first release Verminoso.”

Brazil… The home of Spartacus’ reigning master-project Skull And Bones. It’s not easy being from Brazil and follow in the footsteps of Spartacus, that’s for sure. He set a standard for what’s possible in music – now his legacy needs to be taken care of by his countrymen in case Spartacus decides to hang up the guitar and vocal chords. So the question is; can Soturnus Skullcrusher possibly carry the flame lit by their guiding gay-star and hero Spartacus?

- By looking at the member’s names, their MySpace and everything else that comes with the packaging of this disc – not a fucken chance.

- After listening to and watching this DVD (which serves as a demo/promo as well, obviously) – not a fucken chance in hell.

- Those two, and they describe themselves as “deathcore”.

Hooray. Looks like we are in for a huge fucken treat, huh? I could spend an hour or 3 ripping these guys new assholes but I simply do not have the time for it, nor do I feel they are worthy of that treatment. I’ll give them a few words though, after all – they did send me this DVD

Soturnus Skullcrusher is complete shit. There. Emphasis on “complete”. This “demo” consists of 2 gigs, one is 20 minutes long and the other is 10. This means we get 30 minutes of audio feces. Fantastic. It’s not like the 2 shows are very different either. At both gigs they play in front of no crowd (go figure…), the sound is shit, the light is shit, their performance is shit and they play the same songs at both occasions. The second concert is definitely the best one though since they actually play 10 minutes shorter.

It’s things like this that pisses me off. Bands like the now-dead Flushed and 2 Ton Predator create killer material and still they can’t get a fucken label to release it (Flushed only did demos and 2 Ton’s last album never saw the light of day), still a sorry excuse for a band such as this gets a DVD out. Sure it’s complete and utter bullshit, but at least some label thought it was good enough to release. And the thought of that is fucken scary. But when I further investigate this whole thing it is evident that this release is done by their own “label”. That’s what I thought. There is some justice after all.

My copy is hand numbered the 70th. This means 69 other people had to go thru the embarrassment of listening to this fucken disgrace.

I pity all of you.
